Description

This classic Italian tiramisu is the ultimate no-bake dessert, featuring delicate layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and a rich, velvety mascarpone cream. The subtle kick of brandy adds depth, while a dusting of unsweetened cocoa powder provides a beautiful, bittersweet finish. Its an elegant yet approachable dish perfect for dinner parties, romantic evenings, or celebrating special occasions. The texture is light and airy, balancing the intense coffee flavor with smooth, creamy richness. Simple to assemble with pantry staples, this recipe yields a sophisticated treat that tastes incredibly homemade. Serve chilled for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the brewed espresso and brandy.
  2. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are moist but not soggy.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until thick and lemon-colored, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Add the mascarpone cheese (or cream cheese mixture) to the yolk mixture and blend on low speed until fully combined and smooth.
  5. In a separate large, clean bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the mascarpone mixture using a spatula, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
  7. Line the bottom of an 8-cup souffl dish or serving dish with a single layer of the coffee-soaked ladyfingers.
  8. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture evenly over the ladyfingers.
  9. Sift 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder over the cream layer.
  10. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers, cream mixture, and remaining cocoa powder.
  11. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set and chilled.
  12. To serve, spoon portions onto individual plates.

Note

For food safety, consider using pasteurized eggs or an egg substitute if serving to pregnant women, young children, or immunocompromised individuals.

The heavy cream and sour cream listed in the ingredients can be whipped and folded into the mascarpone mixture for a lighter texture, or omitted if using a high-quality mascarpone which provides sufficient richness.

Tiramisu can be made up to 24 hours in advance. The flavors meld and improve after chilling overnight.

If you prefer a stronger coffee flavor, use a double shot of espresso or reduce the amount of brandy slightly to balance the intensity.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
