These Treacle Scones offer a comforting twist on the classic tea-time staple. Unlike traditional scones, the addition of black treacle (or dark molasses) creates a dense, moist crumb with a rich, bittersweet caramel flavor. The dough is easy to handle and comes together quickly, making them perfect for a cozy afternoon tea or a hearty breakfast. Serve them warm, split and slathered with butter, to enjoy the contrast between the crisp exterior and the tender, chewy interior. A delightful treat that pairs beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Molasses is known as treacle in the U.K. Black treacle provides a deeper flavor, but light molasses can be used as a substitute.

These scones are fragrant and chewy; they are very nice on a cold afternoon.

For best texture, do not overmix the dough once the wet ingredients are added.
