COLLECTION: Honey-Tint Sauce
Description
This Honey-Tint Sauce is a kitchen staple that transforms simple ingredients into something extraordinary. Blending the natural sweetness of clear honey with the savory depth of soy sauce and the tangy kick of tomato ketchup, it creates a glossy, rich glaze that clings beautifully to chicken or coats stir-fry vegetables. The addition of French mustard adds a subtle sharpness that balances the sweetness perfectly. Whether used as a quick dip for crispy wings, a tenderizing marinade for roasted chicken, or a thickening agent for a fast weeknight stir-fry, this sauce delivers consistent, restaurant-quality flavor. It’s an essential addition to your pantry for easy, delicious meals.Ingredients
Directions
-
In a non-metal container (glass or plastic), whisk together the honey, ketchup, soy sauce, and mustard until smooth. Set aside.
-
To use as a marinade: Place chicken pieces in the sauce, ensuring they are thoroughly coated. Marinate in the fridge for 1.5 hours or at room temperature for 45 minutes.
-
To roast: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Place marinated chicken on a wire rack over a roasting pan. Bake for 45 minutes, basting with remaining marinade every 15 minutes.
-
To use in a stir-fry: Heat oil in a wok over high heat. Add diced meat and toss until cooked through.
-
Add the chopped onion and vegetables. Stir-fry until vegetables are tender-crisp.
-
Pour the honey-tint sauce mixture into the wok. Stir well to coat the ingredients.
-
In a small bowl, mix cornflour with a tablespoon of ketchup and a dash of soy sauce to form a smooth paste. Add this slurry to the wok.
-
Stir continuously and heat until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. Serve immediately over rice.
Note
Storage: The sauce can be stored in a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. It may separate; simply stir before using.
Substitutions: If you don't have French mustard, regular Dijon works well. For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
Variations: Add a dash of chili sauce for heat, or a spoonful of peanut butter for a satay-style twist.
Freezing: The stir-fry freezes well without the rice. Reheat gently in a pan, adding a splash of water if needed.
