Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350&# 194;°F (175°C) and grease baking sheets.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and milk until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder and flour.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  6. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes until firm enough to handle.
  7. Take about 2 tablespoons of dough and roll it into a 12-inch rope between your palms.
  8. Shape the rope into a pretzel by making a loop about 1.5 inches in diameter, crossing the ends, and flipping the loop down over the cross.
  9. Press the ends firmly into place to secure the shape.
  10. Place the shaped pretzels on the prepared baking sheets.
  11. Bake for 10 minutes or until firm to the touch.
  12. While baking, make the frosting: In a small bowl, mix the 2 tablespoons cocoa and confectioners' sugar.
  13. Stir in the melted butter and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  14. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  15. Allow pretzels to cool completely before spreading with the cocoa frosting.
