Description

These delicate Chocolate Liqueur Shells are a sophisticated dessert that combines crisp, melted chocolate cups with a light, airy mousse. The mousse is divided into three distinct flavors: rich coffee-infused Tia Maria, herbal creme de menthe, and citrusy Cointreau, creating a tri-color effect that is as visually stunning as it is delicious. The semi-sweet chocolate shells provide a sturdy yet melt-in-your-mouth vessel for the creamy filling. Perfect for dinner parties, holiday gatherings, or as a special treat for chocolate lovers, these individual servings offer a refined tasting experience. They are best enjoyed chilled and should be served within 24 hours of assembly for optimal texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Melt semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler until smooth.
  2. Using a spoon, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the inside of 12 paper muffin cups to form shells.
  3. Turn the cups upside down onto a plate and refrigerate until the chocolate is completely set.
  4. Once set, gently peel off the paper cups to reveal the chocolate shells.
  5. Slowly melt white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water, then remove from heat.
  6. Quickly beat 2 egg yolks into the melted white chocolate.
  7. Set the chocolate-yolk mixture aside and beat 2 egg whites in a separate clean bowl until stiff but not dry.
  8. Divide the chocolate-yolk mixture into three separate bowls.
  9. Add 1 tablespoon of Tia Maria to the first bowl, 1 tablespoon of Cointreau to the second, and 1 tablespoon of creme de menthe to the third.
  10. Optionally, add a drop or two of green food coloring to the creme de menthe mixture and yellow to the Cointreau mixture.
  11. Gently fold one-third of the beaten egg whites into each of the three flavored chocolate bowls.
  12. Spoon the mousse mixture into the prepared chocolate shells, dividing evenly.
  13. Refrigerate the filled shells for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
  14. Store in a cool, dry place if making ahead, but consume within 24 hours for best quality.
