Classic Apricot Sweet (Mudur Chere)
Description
This classic Mudur Chere transforms simple dried apricots into a luxurious, melt-in-your-mouth treat. The fruit is soaked to rehydrate, then gently simmered with sugar, fresh ginger, cinnamon, and aromatic cardamom pods. The result is a thick, golden syrup that coats the plump apricots, offering a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors. It&# 226;ÂÂs an elegant yet easy dessert that shines at festive gatherings or as a comforting weekend indulgence. Garnished with crunchy blanched almonds, this dish brings authentic Indian home-cooking warmth to your table without requiring complex techniques or hard-to-find ingredients.Ingredients
Directions
-
Place the dried apricots in a heavy medium saucepan and cover with 2 cups of water. Let soak for at least 4 to 5 hours until the fruit is soft and plump.
-
After soaking, add the sugar, cracked cardamom pods, ginger slices, and cinnamon stick to the saucepan with the apricots and their soaking water.
-
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
-
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently. Cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
-
If the syrup becomes too thick or gummy during simmering, add a splash of water to loosen it to your desired consistency.
-
Remove the pan from heat and allow the apricot sweet to cool completely to room temperature.
-
Before serving, remove the whole spices (cardamom pods, ginger slices, and cinnamon stick) from the mixture.
-
Garnish with halved blanched almonds. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
