Doughnuts (Fastnachts- A Shrove Tuesday Tradition)
Description
These classic Fastnachts are a beloved Shrove Tuesday tradition, featuring a rich, yeast-raised dough infused with warm nutmeg and melted butter. The result is a tender, pillowy interior with a lightly crisp, golden exterior. Unlike cake donuts, these rely on a long, slow rise to develop their distinctive flavor and texture. They are best enjoyed fresh from the fryer, dusted with powdered sugar or served plain. This recipe captures the comforting, homemade taste of old-fashioned frying, making it an ideal treat for festive gatherings or a special weekend breakfast. The dough is forgiving and yields generous results, ensuring everyone gets a piece of the celebration.Ingredients
