Grilled Tuna With Teriyaki Fruit Sauce
Description
This elegant yet simple dish transforms humble ingredients into a restaurant-quality meal. The star is the tuna, grilled just enough to seal in juices while keeping the center rare and tender. It is bathed in a homemade teriyaki-style sauce that balances salty soy, sweet sugar, and aromatic ginger with a splash of sake or sherry. The freshness of ripe papaya slices and the crunch of julienned green bell peppers provide a bright, textural contrast to the rich fish. Garnished with spicy crystallized ginger, this dish offers a perfect harmony of sweet, savory, and fresh flavors. It is ideal for a quick weeknight dinner that feels special or for entertaining guests who appreciate bold, clean flavors.Ingredients
Directions
-
In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, sugar, sake (or sherry), and fresh ginger slices.
-
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
-
Reduce heat and simmer gently until the sauce has reduced to approximately 1/3 cup and thickened slightly.
-
Remove from heat and discard the ginger slices. Keep the sauce warm.
-
Preheat your grill to high heat. Prepare the grill grate by brushing it lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
-
Rinse the tuna steaks and pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels. Brush lightly with olive oil.
-
Place the tuna steaks on the grill, about 6 inches above the heat source.
-
Grill for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until the outside is browned but the center remains pale pink and rare.
-
While the tuna cooks, slice the papaya and julienne the green bell pepper.
-
To serve, place a tuna steak on each plate. Top with three slices of papaya.
-
Spoon the warm teriyaki sauce over the fish and papaya.
-
Garnish with finely chopped crystallized ginger and the julienned green bell pepper. Serve immediately.
