Homemade “Everything In It” Granola
Description
This robust granola recipe is a pantry staple that combines wholesome grains with a generous mix of seeds, nuts, and dried fruits. The base of rolled oats and wheat germ provides a nutty foundation, while sunflower seeds, pecans, and sesame seeds add satisfying crunch and texture. Sweetened with honey or brown sugar and bound with vegetable oil, the mixture bakes into crisp clusters that hold together beautifully. Topped with coarsely chopped dried apricots, apples, prunes, and raisins, every bite offers a burst of natural sweetness and chewy contrast.Ingredients
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C).
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, pecans, sesame seeds, powdered milk (if using), honey or brown sugar, vegetable oil, water, vanilla extract, and salt.
-
Use your hands or a large spoon to thoroughly mix the ingredients until the oats and seeds are evenly coated with the oil and sweetener mixture.
-
Spread the mixture evenly between two jelly-roll pans or large baking sheets.
-
Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour.
-
Stir the granola well every 15 minutes, turning the mixture over to ensure even toasting and prevent burning on the bottom.
-
Remove the pans from the oven and allow the granola to cool completely on the pans, which takes about 1 hour. Do not add the dried fruits until the granola is cool.
-
Once cooled, transfer the granola to a large bowl and fold in the chopped dried apricots, apples, prunes or dates, and dark raisins.
