Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Thaw the phyllo dough according to package directions, keeping it covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the no-sugar-added black cherry spread with the cherry liqueur, if using, and stir until smooth.
  4. Lay out the phyllo sheets on a clean work surface, keeping unused sheets covered with a damp cloth.
  5. Lightly brush each of the 8 phyllo sheets with melted butter, stacking them on top of one another to form a single pile.
  6. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut through the entire stack to create six 5-inch squares.
  7. Place 1 tablespoon of the cherry mixture in the center of each phyllo square.
  8. Brush the edges of each square with melted butter to help them seal.
  9. Fold each square in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges firmly together to seal in the filling.
  10. Arrange the sealed turnovers on an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
  11. Beat together the egg and cold water in a small bowl, then brush the mixture over the top of each turnover for a golden finish.
  12. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown and crispy.
  13. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly.
  14. Serve warm or at room temperature as a delightful dessert or snack.
