Description

This classic lasagna is a comforting masterpiece of layers, featuring tender noodles, savory sausage, and a rich, slow-simmered tomato sauce. The dish is bound together by a creamy ricotta and mozzarella cheese blend, topped with sharp Parmesan for a golden, bubbly crust. Each slice offers a perfect balance of textures: the soft pasta, the juicy meat, and the velvety cheese. It is an ideal centerpiece for family dinners, potlucks, or Sunday suppers. While it requires some patience to assemble and bake, the result is a deeply satisfying meal that tastes even better the next day. Serve with a simple green salad and crusty bread to soak up every last drop of sauce.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer sausage to a plate and discard excess fat from the pan.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onions until tender and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and red pepper, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, and the browned sausage. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the mozzarella cheese until well combined.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread about 1/2 cup of the sausage sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Layer cooked noodles over the sauce, followed by a layer of the ricotta-mozzarella mixture, a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, and a generous amount of sausage sauce.
  8. Repeat the layers (noodles, cheese mixture, Parmesan, sauce) until all ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of noodles covered with sauce.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining grated Parmesan cheese over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  10. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to allow it to set.
