Description

Lethal Layers is a decadent dessert bar that combines a buttery, crumbly shortbread-like crust with a dense, sweet pecan and chocolate chip filling. The contrast between the crisp base and the soft, chewy top creates a satisfying texture that is both comforting and indulgent. Made with simple pantry staples like brown sugar, vanilla, and pecans, this recipe delivers a deep, caramelized flavor profile. It is perfect for potlucks, holiday gatherings, or as a sweet treat after a savory dinner. The bars are sturdy enough to transport but delicate enough to enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375&# 194;°F (191ðC).
  2. In a food processor fitted with a metal blade, combine butter, brown sugar, and flour until the mixture is crumbly.
  3. Press the crumbly mixture firmly into the bottom of a buttered 9x13-inch baking pan to form an even crust.
  4. Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from oven and allow to cool slightly.
  5. Spread pecan halves evenly over the warm crust.
  6. In a medium bowl, beat eggs and remaining brown sugar together until thick and well combined.
  7. Stir in vanilla extract.
  8. In a separate small bowl, combine salt and baking powder, then stir into the egg mixture.
  9. Fold in chocolate chips.
  10. Pour the filling evenly over the pecan layer.
  11. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the center is set and no longer jiggles.
  12. Allow bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 32 pieces.

Note

If you do not have a food processor, you can mix the crust ingredients using two pastry knives or a pastry cutter until coarse crumbs form.

For easier cleanup and removal, line the 9x13-inch pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides, before pressing in the crust.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
