  2. Place split peas and water in a saucepan over med.
  3. heat.
  4. Simmer until tender, about 30 min.
  5. Add peas and continue simmering until they are cooked, 6 - 7 min.
  6. Cool slightly.
  7. Place peas, water, salt, and pepper in a food processor.
  8. Process until smooth.
  9. Serve hot or chill and serve
