Description

These decadent hot fudge brownies are the ultimate comfort dessert, combining a chewy, chocolatey brownie base with a rich, liquid fudge sauce that forms right in the pan. Made with simple pantry staples like cocoa, walnuts, and a splash of vanilla, they deliver deep chocolate flavor in every bite. The secret is pouring boiling water over the brown sugar and cocoa topping before baking, which creates a luscious, pourable sauce. Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a restaurant-quality treat at home.

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Coat an 8-inch square baking pan with nonstick baking spray or line with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; mix with a spoon or whisk until the batter is smooth.
  5. Stir in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and the remaining 1/4 cup of cocoa powder.
  8. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cocoa mixture evenly over the batter in the pan.
  9. Carefully pour the hot water evenly over the brown sugar and cocoa topping.
  10. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is cracked and the brownies are just firm to the touch but still slightly moist in the center.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 15 minutes to allow the fudge sauce to set slightly.
  12. Cut into squares and place on individual serving plates.
  13. Top each brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and spoon the hot fudge sauce from the bottom of the pan over the top.
  14. Serve immediately while warm.
