It's an elegant yet approachable dessert perfect for weekend brunches, tea time, or as a special treat to end a dinner party. Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 6-cup fluted tube (Bundt) pan; set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the chocolate mini-morsels with the orange liqueur. Add 1 tablespoon of the sifted cake flour and toss gently to coat the chips completely; this prevents them from sinking during baking. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs, 3 tablespoons of the sour cream, and the orange flower water (or vanilla extract) until combined. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the remaining cake flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground almonds, and orange zest. Mix at very low speed until just blended.
  5. Add the softened butter and the remaining sour cream to the dry ingredients. Beat at low speed until the dry ingredients are just moistened. Increase speed to medium and beat for 1 1/2 minutes to aerate the batter and develop the cake's structure.
  6. Gradually beat in the egg mixture, adding it one-third at a time. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary to ensure everything is incorporated.
  7. Gently fold in the chocolate chip mixture until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean and the center springs back when lightly touched.
  9. While the cake bakes, prepare the syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the sugar for syrup, fresh orange juice, and orange liqueur for syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for about 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  10. Transfer the hot cake, still in its pan, to a wire rack. Immediately prick the entire top surface of the cake with a toothpick.
  11. Brush half of the warm orange syrup over the pricked cake top. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  12. Remove the cake from the pan by inverting it onto a serving plate, rounded side up. Brush the remaining syrup over the entire surface of the cake. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
