Description

These Oriental Style Beef Kabobs offer a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and aromatic flavors. The beef top sirloin is tenderized and infused with a rich marinade of soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger, then grilled alongside juicy pineapple chunks and crisp green peppers. The caramelized exterior gives way to juicy, flavorful meat, making this dish an excellent choice for summer barbecues, potlucks, or a quick weeknight dinner. The combination of textures and the bright acidity from the pineapple cut through the richness of the beef beautifully. Serve with steamed rice or fresh salad for a complete meal that is both comforting and exciting.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sugar, water, sherry extract, minced garlic, and grated ginger until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Cut the beef top sirloin into sixteen 1-inch cubes.
  3. Place the beef cubes in a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the beef, seal the bag, and turn to coat evenly.
  4. Refrigerate the beef for 6 to 8 hours or overnight, turning the bag occasionally.
  5. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  6. Drain the beef, reserving the marinade. Pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
  7. Thread the skewers, alternating 4 beef cubes, 2 pineapple chunks, and 2 green pepper pieces on each of four 12-inch skewers.
  8. Place the skewers on the grill grate, about 3 to 4 inches from the heat source.
  9. Grill for 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally and brushing with the boiled marinade, until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.
  10. Remove from the grill and serve immediately.

Note

Always boil the leftover marinade before using it as a sauce to kill any bacteria from the raw meat.

For a milder flavor, substitute half of the soy sauce with water or use low-sodium soy sauce.

If fresh ginger is unavailable, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger, though fresh is preferred for better flavor.

Ensure your grill is clean to prevent sticking. Oil the grates lightly before cooking.

Leftover kabobs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
