Note
Storage: Allow rolls to cool completely before storing. Place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a warm oven for 5-10 minutes.
Ingredient Substitution: You can use all butter for a richer flavor, or half butter/half shortening for a softer crumb that stays fresh longer. If using fresh yeast cake, use 1 1/4 times the amount of active dry yeast.
Variations: Add 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder to the dough for garlic cheese rolls. Or, add 1 tablespoon of dried herbs for an Italian-style roll.
Tip: Ensure your water is warm (105-115ðF), not hot, to avoid killing the yeast. If the dough feels too sticky during kneading, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time. If it feels dry, add water 1 teaspoon at a time.
