Store leftover bread wrapped in foil or plastic wrap at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage. Reheat slices in a toaster or oven before serving.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 2 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar to 2 cups of regular milk. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it curdles slightly.
For a sweeter loaf, increase the sugar to 1/4 cup. You can also omit the raisins for a plain soda bread or add currants for a different texture.
