Traditional Polish Kutia often uses "Spiritus" (grain alcohol) or vodka as the festive spirit. Add alcohol just before serving if desired.
For a smoother texture, you can blend the cooked wheat slightly before mixing with the poppy seed mixture, though a coarse texture is traditional.
