Note
For a richer flavor, you can use beef broth instead of part of the wine or add a tablespoon of tomato paste when sautéing the onions.
If you don't have an oven-safe skillet, brown the beef and onions in a regular skillet, then transfer everything to a casserole dish for baking.
This stew tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld together. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
To make this recipe gluten-free, ensure your soup mix and soup cans are certified gluten-free, or substitute with a gluten-free thickener like cornstarch slurry.
For a lighter version, you can substitute the cream of celery soup with a blend of chicken broth and a roux made from butter and flour, plus fresh chopped celery.
