Note
Storage: Store rum balls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. They can also be refrigerated for longer storage; allow them to come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
Ingredient Substitutions: For a non-alcoholic version, replace the dark rum with an equal amount of vanilla extract or orange juice. If you prefer a stronger rum flavor, you can double the amount of rum and reduce the corn syrup slightly.
Variations: Try adding a teaspoon of almond extract for extra flavor, or use different types of nuts such as pecans, walnuts, or macadamia nuts. You can also dip half the balls in melted chocolate for a decadent finish.
Tips: If the mixture is too dry to hold together, add a little more corn syrup or rum, one teaspoon at a time. If it is too wet, add more crushed wafers or cocoa powder. Wearing food-safe gloves can prevent the cocoa from staining your hands.
