Note
Storage: Fresh coconut milk can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze in plastic containers or ice cube trays for future use.
Consistency: For richer, thicker coconut cream, use less water (e.g., 2-3 cups). For a thinner consistency, add more water.
Safety: When cracking the coconut, wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying shell fragments. Use a dull knife when prying meat to avoid slipping and injuring your fingers.
Leftover Pulp: The leftover coconut pulp can be dried in the oven and ground into coconut flour, or added to smoothies and baked goods for extra fiber.
Selection: Choose a ripe coconut that feels heavy for its size and has hard, smooth skin without soft spots or mold.
