Description

This unconventional twist on classic Stroganoff uses Coca-Cola to tenderize the beef and add a subtle sweetness to the rich gravy. Chuck steak is simmered until fork-tender, then finished with sour cream for a luxurious texture. The combination of savory Worcestershire sauce, earthy mushrooms, and aromatic garlic creates a deeply comforting dish perfect for weeknight dinners. Serve over hot mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice to soak up every drop of the delicious sauce. It’s a hearty, family-friendly meal that feels special yet remains simple to prepare with pantry staples.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cut the beef into 1/2-inch strips.
  2. Place the beef strips in a plastic bag with 3 tablespoons of flour and the salt.
  3. Shake the bag until the meat is evenly coated.
  4. In a heavy skillet or Dutch oven, heat the oil or shortening over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the coated meat strips and brown slowly, stirring often, until seared on all sides.
  6. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, Coca-Cola, and 1/4 cup of water to the skillet. Mix well.
  7. Cover the skillet and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the meat is fork-tender.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the 2 tablespoons of flour with the 1/2 cup of water until smooth to create a slurry.
  9. Stir the flour slurry into the meat mixture along with the Worcestershire sauce and the undrained mushrooms.
  10. Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
  11. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sour cream.
  12. Return to low heat and warm gently just until the gravy simmers; do not boil vigorously to prevent curdling.
  13. Sprinkle with minced parsley and serve immediately over hot mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
