Russian Beef Stroganoff – With Coke
Description
This unconventional twist on classic Stroganoff uses Coca-Cola to tenderize the beef and add a subtle sweetness to the rich gravy. Chuck steak is simmered until fork-tender, then finished with sour cream for a luxurious texture. The combination of savory Worcestershire sauce, earthy mushrooms, and aromatic garlic creates a deeply comforting dish perfect for weeknight dinners. Serve over hot mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice to soak up every drop of the delicious sauce. It’s a hearty, family-friendly meal that feels special yet remains simple to prepare with pantry staples.Ingredients
Directions
-
Cut the beef into 1/2-inch strips.
-
Place the beef strips in a plastic bag with 3 tablespoons of flour and the salt.
-
Shake the bag until the meat is evenly coated.
-
In a heavy skillet or Dutch oven, heat the oil or shortening over medium-high heat.
-
Add the coated meat strips and brown slowly, stirring often, until seared on all sides.
-
Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, Coca-Cola, and 1/4 cup of water to the skillet. Mix well.
-
Cover the skillet and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the meat is fork-tender.
-
In a small bowl, mix the 2 tablespoons of flour with the 1/2 cup of water until smooth to create a slurry.
-
Stir the flour slurry into the meat mixture along with the Worcestershire sauce and the undrained mushrooms.
-
Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
-
Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sour cream.
-
Return to low heat and warm gently just until the gravy simmers; do not boil vigorously to prevent curdling.
-
Sprinkle with minced parsley and serve immediately over hot mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
