Description

This Taco Pizza is a creative twist on traditional comfort food, combining a unique cornmeal and flour crust with a savory, seasoned meat sauce. The crust offers a pleasant crunch and slight sweetness that balances the rich, spicy flavors of the ground beef and pork sausage filling. Topped with a generous blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, it melts into a gooey layer that holds everything together. Finished with crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and olives, this dish delivers a satisfying mix of hot and cold, soft and crunchy textures. It is perfect for casual family dinners, game day gatherings, or when you want something fun and indulgent that feels homemade. Easy to assemble and baked to golden perfection, it brings the flavors of tacos to the convenience of a pizza.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the milk and melted butter; mix well until a dough forms.
  4. Press the dough onto the bottom and up the sides of a 12 to 14 inch pizza pan.
  5. Bake the crust at 400°F (204°C) for 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
  6. Remove the crust from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  7. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, brown the ground beef and pork sausage over medium heat.
  8. Drain the excess fat from the cooked meat.
  9. Stir in the tomato paste, canned diced tomatoes (undrained), taco seasoning, and water.
  10. Bring the meat sauce to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes.
  11. Spread the meat sauce evenly over the pre-baked crust.
  12. Combine the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses; sprinkle 2 cups of the mixture over the meat layer.
  13. Bake at 400°F (204°C) for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Remove from oven and immediately top with chopped lettuce, diced fresh tomato, sliced olives, green onions, and the remaining cheese.
