Chocolate Toffee Bars
Description
These Chocolate Toffee Bars combine a tender, brown sugar-spiced crust with a dense, fudgy chocolate center. The generous amount of packed brown sugar lends a deep toffee flavor and a moist, chewy texture. Topped with a simple homemade chocolate glaze, these bars offer a perfect balance of sweetness and richness. They are incredibly easy to whip up in the microwave, requiring minimal prep time and no fancy equipment.Ingredients
Directions
-
In a small bowl, combine the packed brown sugar, softened butter, flour, and baking powder. Mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Press the crumb mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of an 8x2-inch microwave-safe dish.
-
Microwave the crust on 50% power for 4 to 6 minutes, or until it looks almost dry.
-
Let the crust stand uncovered for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, packed brown sugar, flour, baking powder, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
-
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
-
Spread this chocolate mixture evenly over the cooked crust layer.
-
Microwave the assembled bars on 50% power for 7 to 10 minutes. Watch closely; the top will start to lose its glossiness when done. Do not overcook.
-
Cover the dish loosely and let it stand for 5 minutes.
-
Uncover and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan.
-
While the bars cool, make the glaze: Microwave 1 tablespoon cocoa, 1 tablespoon butter, and 1 tablespoon water in a small measure on full power for 20 to 30 seconds.
-
Stir in 1/2 cup powdered sugar until the glaze is smooth and glossy.
-
Drizzle the chocolate glaze over the cooled bars.
-
Refrigerate the bars for at least 30 minutes to set the glaze and firm up the texture.
-
Cut into 2" x 1 1/4" bars and serve. Store any remaining bars in the refrigerator.
