Classic Biscuits
Description
These Classic Biscuits are the epitome of comfort food, offering a perfect balance of flaky layers and tender crumb. Made with a simple mix of soft-wheat flour, cold butter, and tangy buttermilk, they rise beautifully to create a light, airy texture. The addition of cream cheese adds a subtle richness and helps create those desired shaggy layers. Whether served warm with honey butter alongside a hearty stew or split open for a savory breakfast sandwich, these biscuits are a versatile staple. They are quick to come together but require handling with care to ensure they stay tender rather than tough. A true crowd-pleaser that tastes best fresh from the oven.Ingredients
Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 400ðF (200ðC).
-
In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, softened butter, and 1 tablespoon of flour with a fork until smooth and combined.
-
Cover the mixture and chill in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes, or in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, until very cold.
-
Lightly oil a large baking sheet or coat it with nonstick cooking spray.
-
Sift the remaining 2 cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large mixing bowl.
-
Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, cut the chilled cream cheese-butter paste into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse meal with pea-sized pieces of fat.
-
Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk.
-
Stir with a fork just until the dough comes together; it should be soft and shaggy.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead just 5 or 6 times to form a ball. Do not overwork.
-
Pat the dough into a circle about 3/4-inch thick.
-
Using a floured 2-inch round cutter, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
-
Gather the scraps, pat gently, and cut out more biscuits.
-
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
-
Serve immediately while warm.
