Description

This refreshing Mediterranean-style sauce is a perfect blend of creamy yogurt, crisp cucumber, and aromatic garlic. It offers a cool, tangy taste with a subtle kick from black pepper, making it an ideal accompaniment to grilled meats, vegetables, or warm flatbreads. The texture is smooth yet slightly chunky from the grated cucumber, providing a delightful contrast in every bite. Quick to prepare and versatile enough for various dishes, this sauce adds a burst of freshness to any meal. Its simplicity lies in the quality of ingredients, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. Perfect for summer gatherings or as a healthy dip option.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Line a strainer with cheesecloth and place it over a bowl.
  2. Pour the yogurt into the cheesecloth-lined strainer and let it drain for 1 hour to remove excess water.
  3. Meanwhile, sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of salt over the grated cucumber and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes to draw out moisture.
  4. Squeeze the grated cucumber gently to remove any remaining liquid.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained yogurt, pureed garlic, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  6. Add the drained cucumber and freshly ground black pepper to the yogurt mixture.
  7. Stir everything together until well combined.
  8. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the sauce for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
  9. Before serving, drizzle with olive oil and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
