Godiva Ultimate Chocolate Layer Cake
Description
Indulge in the decadent depths of this Godiva Ultimate Chocolate Layer Cake, a showstopper dessert that combines moist, dense chocolate sponge with a luxurious buttercream frosting. The secret lies in the infusion of Godiva liqueur, which adds a sophisticated, aromatic complexity to both the cake layers and the frosting. This recipe is perfect for celebrations, holidays, or any occasion calling for a truly memorable treat. The combination of melted chocolate in the batter and cocoa powder in the frosting creates a dual-texture experience that is both smooth and intensely flavorful.Directions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
-
For the cake batter: In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, cream the 6 oz of softened butter and the granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
-
Stir in the melted unsweetened chocolate until fully incorporated.
-
With the mixer on low speed, alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
-
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
-
Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
-
For the buttercream: In a large bowl, beat the 1 cup of softened butter until smooth and creamy.
-
Gradually add the sifted confectioner's sugar and cocoa powder, beating on low speed until incorporated.
-
Add 1/3 cup of Godiva liqueur and beat on high speed until smooth and fluffy.
-
Place the cooled cake layers in the freezer for about 3 minutes to firm up, making them easier to handle.
-
Remove cakes from freezer. Place one layer on a serving plate. Brush with half of the remaining Godiva liqueur.
-
Spread approximately 3/4 cup of the buttercream frosting over the top of the first layer.
-
Place the second cake layer on top. Brush with the remaining Godiva liqueur.
-
Spread the remaining buttercream over the top and sides of the cake, smoothing as desired.
-
Garnish with shaved chocolate. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
