Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large bowl or bread machine, combine bread flour, active dry yeast, sugar, butter, cardamom, salt, powdered buttermilk, and water.
  2. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes by hand or according to bread machine dough cycle instructions.
  3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 to 15 equal pieces.
  4. Roll each piece into a rope about 6 to 8 inches long.
  5. Tie each rope into a simple knot, pinching the ends together to seal.
  6. Place the rolls, pinched end side down, in a lightly greased baking pan.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
  9. Bake the rolls for 13 to 15 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.
  10. While rolls bake, mix 1 tablespoon melted butter and 1 tablespoon sugar in a small saucepan over low heat until the sugar is slightly dissolved.
  11. Remove rolls from oven and immediately brush with the warm butter-sugar mixture.
  12. Serve warm.
