Description

These Ham and Cheese Rollups are a delightful twist on classic appetizers, combining the tenderness of ground chicken with the savory punch of diced ham and gooey melted cheese. Wrapped in thin egg roll wrappers and either baked or fried until golden brown, they offer a satisfying crunch that gives way to a warm, flavorful center. Perfect for potlucks, game day gatherings, or a unique weeknight dinner, these rollups are easy to assemble and customize with your favorite cheeses like mozzarella or Swiss. They bring a comforting, home-style taste that is sure to disappear quickly from the serving platter.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, seasoned breadcrumbs, and 1 egg. Mix thoroughly with your hands until well blended.
  2. If the mixture feels too dry or dense, add a splash of water or white wine until it holds together easily.
  3. Line a cookie sheet with plastic wrap (Saran wrap). Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the wrap, patting it out to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  4. Cover the sheet and refrigerate for 1 hour to firm up the chicken layer.
  5. While the chicken chills, finely dice the cooked ham and mix it with the shredded cheese (mozzarella or Swiss) in a small bowl.
  6. Add the minced garlic, black pepper, and enough water or white wine to the ham and cheese mixture so it holds together when spread.
  7. Remove the chilled chicken sheet from the fridge. Spread the ham and cheese filling evenly over the top of the chicken layer.
  8. Using the plastic wrap to help lift, carefully roll the sheet into a tight log.
  9. Cut the log into pieces approximately 2.5 to 3 inches long.
  10. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place one piece of the chicken log diagonally across the center.
  11. Dampen the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly to seal.
  12. Place the assembled rolls on a baking sheet, cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour to set the wrapper.
  13. For baking: Place rolls on a lined baking sheet and bake at 375&# 194;°F (191ðC) for 45 minutes until golden and meat is cooked through.
  14. For frying: Heat oil to moderate temperature. Fry rolls until golden brown, ensuring they cook thoroughly inside. Drain on paper towels.
