Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven according to cake mix instructions. Prepare and bake the spice cake and white cake mixes separately. Allow cakes to cool completely to room temperature.
  2. While cakes cool, prepare the vanilla pudding mix according to package directions. Refrigerate until chilled and thickened.
  3. Place white sandwich cookies in a blender or food processor. Pulse in small batches until finely crumbled, scraping down the sides often to prevent sticking.
  4. Measure out approximately 1/4 cup of the cookie crumbs and set aside in a small bowl. Reserve the remaining crumbs.
  5. Add a few drops of green food coloring to the reserved 1/4 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix thoroughly with a fork until evenly tinted green.
  6. Crumble the cooled spice and white cakes into a large mixing bowl, breaking them into small, irregular pieces.
  7. Add the chilled pudding and half of the remaining plain cookie crumbs to the cake crumbs. Gently toss until everything is evenly coated and combined.
  8. Line a clean, large container or bowl with plastic wrap. Transfer the cake and pudding mixture into the container, pressing it down lightly to form a base.
  9. Microwave 3 unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in a microwave-safe dish for 10-15 seconds, just until soft and pliable. Shape the ends to be slightly curved and tapered.
  10. Bury the shaped Tootsie Rolls into the cake mixture. Repeat with the next 3 Tootsie Rolls, heating and shaping them similarly, and bury them in the mixture.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining plain cookie crumbs over the top of the mixture to cover any exposed cake.
  12. Lightly scatter the green-tinted cookie crumbs over the top to simulate chlorophyll or plant matter often found in natural litter.
  13. Microwave the remaining 6 Tootsie Rolls in batches of 3 until almost melted. Scrape the softened chocolate onto the top of the cake mixture.
  14. Sprinkle a final layer of plain cookie crumbs over the melted chocolate. Serve with plastic spoons or "pooper scoopers" for added effect.

Note

Ensure the cakes are completely cool before crumbling to prevent the pudding from melting and the mixture from becoming soggy.

For best texture, use a large, shallow container or a clean, sanitized plastic bin to mimic the look of a litter box.

If you prefer a sweeter dessert, add extra marshmallow fluff or whipped cream to the pudding mixture.

This dessert is best served chilled. Store leftovers in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days.

Be cautious when microwaving Tootsie Rolls; they can burn quickly. Check every 5 seconds.

Make sure the container used for serving is clearly marked as food-safe and has never been used for actual pet litter to avoid hygiene issues.
