Description

This comforting apple pie features a tender, flaky crust made with oil and milk, encasing a filling of sweet Macintosh apples, brown sugar, and warm spices like cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg. The filling is thickened slightly with flour and dotted with butter for richness. Baked until golden and bubbly, it is finished with a simple vanilla glaze that drips into the slits, adding a glossy sheen and extra sweetness. Perfect for family dinners, holiday gatherings, or a cozy weekend treat, this recipe captures the nostalgic taste of homemade baking. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate dessert experience.

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, vegetable oil, milk, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough into two equal balls. Wrap each ball in wax paper and chill briefly, then roll out between two sheets of wax paper to prevent sticking.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Place one rolled-out crust into an 8-9 inch pie plate.
  4. In a large bowl, toss the sliced Macintosh apples with the light brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust-lined plate. Dot with pats of butter and sprinkle with the remaining flour.
  6. Roll out the second crust and place it over the filling. Seal the edges and cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Place the pie on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil to catch any potential spills.
  8. Bake at 425°F (218°C) for 10 minutes.
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.
  11. While the pie cools, mix the confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk to create a thin glaze.
  12. Brush the glaze over the top of the warm pie, allowing it to drip into the slits. Serve warm.
