Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of whipped topping with red food coloring and whisk until uniformly pink.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of whipped topping with yellow food coloring and mix until evenly colored.
  3. Slice the baked cake in half lengthwise to create two long rectangular pieces.
  4. Take one half of the cake and cut an angle on one end from the middle of the length to 4 inches down on each side to create a pointed shape resembling a pencil tip.
  5. Cut the remaining piece of the first half into two small triangles to form the eraser part.
  6. Place the second half of the cake on a serving platter to serve as the main body of the pencil.
  7. Attach the angled pencil-tip piece to one end of the main body using a small amount of plain whipped topping as adhesive.
  8. Arrange the two triangle pieces at the opposite end to form the eraser, securing them with a dab of plain whipped topping.
  9. Frost the eraser section and the metal band area (just below the eraser) with the pink whipped topping.
  10. Frost the main body of the pencil with the yellow whipped topping.
  11. Use the back of a spoon to press long, vertical ridges into the yellow frosting to simulate pencil grooves.
  12. Frost the pointed tip of the pencil with the remaining untinted (white) whipped topping.
  13. Press chocolate chips around the base of the eraser and along the edges of the eraser to represent the metal holder.
  14. Use decorating gel to write a name or message on the pencil body and add final accents to the eraser.
  15. Refrigerate the assembled cake until ready to serve to allow the frosting to firm up.

Note

Store any leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

For a vegan version, ensure the cake and whipped topping are dairy-free and use plant-based chocolate chips.

If the cake is too crumbly, freeze it for 15 minutes before cutting to make slicing cleaner.

You can use different food coloring shades to create different colored pencils (e.g., blue, green) by adjusting the food coloring used for the main body.
