Description

These whole wheat pizza snacks are the ultimate comfort food bite, combining a hearty, nutty crust with classic Italian flavors. Made from scratch with dry yeast and a touch of oregano, the dough develops a wonderful chewiness that stands up to your favorite toppings. The whole wheat flour adds a wholesome texture, while the softened margarine ensures a tender crumb. Perfect for game day parties, casual weeknight dinners, or a fun lunch for kids, these mini pizzas are customizable and satisfying.

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour, sugar, salt, oregano, and yeast.
  2. Add the warm water and softened margarine to the dry ingredients.
  3. Beat the mixture for 2 minutes at medium speed using an electric mixer.
  4. Add 3/4 cup of the remaining flour; beat at high speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in enough of the remaining flour to form a stiff dough.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl and turn to grease the top.
  8. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  9. Punch the dough down to release air bubbles.
  10. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each into a ball.
  11. Cover the dough balls and let them rest for 10 minutes.
  12. Roll and stretch each ball into a 5-inch circle.
  13. Place the circles on baking sheets greased and sprinkled with cornmeal.
  14. Shape the edges of each circle to form a standing rim of dough.
  15. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  16. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  17. Bake the crusts for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly golden.
  18. Spread each round with 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce, sprinkle with cheese, and add your favorite toppings.
  19. Bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
