Cinnabon Rolls
Description
These homemade cinnamon rolls are the ultimate comfort food, capturing that signature soft, cake-like texture and intense sweetness of the famous bakery chain. Using a secret ingredient of vanilla pudding mix, the dough becomes incredibly tender and moist, while the generous filling of brown sugar and cinnamon provides that classic spicy-sweet kick. Topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting that melts slightly into the warm pastry, these rolls are perfect for special weekend breakfasts, holidays, or as an indulgent treat any time of day. They are surprisingly easy to make with pantry staples and offer a far superior taste and freshness compared to store-bought versions.Ingredients
Directions
-
In a small bowl, combine warm water, dry yeast, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Stir until dissolved and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
-
In a large mixing bowl, prepare the vanilla pudding mix according to package directions (usually with milk), then add melted margarine, beaten eggs, and salt.
-
Pour the activated yeast mixture into the pudding mixture and stir well to combine.
-
Gradually add the flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a large greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
-
Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a large rectangle approximately 34 by 21 inches.
-
Spread 1 cup of melted margarine evenly over the entire surface of the rolled-out dough.
-
In a small bowl, mix together 2 cups of brown sugar and 6 tablespoons of cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
-
Starting from the long side, roll the dough up tightly into a log.
-
To cut the rolls, use a piece of dental floss or strong thread. Slide the string under the roll at the first 2-inch mark, cross the ends over the top, pull tight to slice through, and repeat every 2 inches.
-
Place the cut rolls 2 inches apart on greased baking pans. Gently press down lightly on each roll to help them hold their shape.
-
Cover the pans and let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy and doubled.
-
Preheat your oven to 350&# 194;°F (175ðC).
-
Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Do not overbake.
-
While the rolls bake, make the frosting: Beat 8 oz softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup softened margarine, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 3 cups powdered sugar, and about 1 tablespoon milk until smooth and fluffy.
-
Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the rolls while they are still warm from the oven.
-
Allow the frosting to set slightly before serving. Enjoy immediately or store leftovers in an airtight container.
