Ingredients

Directions

  1. Fill the bottom chamber of the coffee maker with cold water up to the indicated level for your desired number of cups.
  2. Ensure the safety valve hole is not obstructed by water or coffee grounds.
  3. Fill the brew basket completely with finely ground coffee, leveling it off at the rim.
  4. If brewing 9 cups, remove the reducer insert; for 3 or 6 cups, insert the reducer with the long stem down for 3 cups or short stem down for 6 cups.
  5. Wipe any excess coffee grounds from the rim of the brew basket and the rubber seal to ensure a tight fit.
  6. Screw the top part of the coffee maker onto the base tightly by hand.
  7. Close the steam valve and place the coffee maker on a stovetop burner set to high heat.
  8. Position a carafe or cup under the spout to collect the brewing coffee.
  9. Wait for the coffee to begin dripping; it will start dark and slow, then become a strong, steady, lighter stream.
  10. When the flow stops and you hear a gurgling or hissing noise, immediately remove the maker from heat and close the coffee valve.
  11. For a cappuccino, keep the steam valve closed briefly to build pressure, then place milk in a cup and open the steam valve to froth the milk.
