Description

This Cookie Sheet Apple Pie is the ultimate crowd-pleaser, offering all the cozy flavors of traditional pie without the fuss of rolling individual crusts. Tender, spiced apples are nestled between a buttery, flaky crust and topped with a crunchy cornflake streusel. It&# 226;€™s perfect for potlucks, family gatherings, or a lazy weekend dessert. The large rectangular format makes slicing and serving a breeze, while the golden, bubbly edges ensure every bite is delicious. Simple ingredients come together to create a warm, comforting treat that feels like homemade comfort food at its best.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add 3 lightly beaten eggs and 1/3 cup milk; mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove dough from fridge and divide it into two equal halves.
  7. On a floured surface, roll one half of the dough to fit the bottom and sides of a greased 15x10x1 inch baking pan.
  8. Arrange 8 cups of sliced, peeled baking apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) evenly over the crust.
  9. In a small bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, and 1 cup crushed cornflakes.
  10. Sprinkle the sugar-cornflake mixture evenly over the apples.
  11. Roll the remaining dough to fit the top of the pan and place it over the apple filling.
  12. Seal the edges by crimping them with a fork, then cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  13. Brush the top crust with 1 beaten egg white for a golden finish.
  14. Bake at 400 degrees F (204ðC) for 15 minutes.
  15. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (177ðC) and continue baking for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  16. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
