Crab Burgers recipe image

These classic crab burgers are a celebration of simple, high-quality seafood. Unlike beef patties, these “burgers” are essentially generous mounds of sweet backfin or lump crab meat, gently bound with mayonnaise and brightened with finely diced onion and green pepper. The key is not to overmix, preserving the tender texture of the crab. Topped with a slice of mozzarella and baked until golden, the cheese creates a savory, melty cap that complements the briny sweetness of the shellfish. Served on lightly buttered and toasted hamburger rolls, they are perfect for a casual summer dinner, a seafood boil party, or a quick weeknight meal that feels indulgent without being heavy.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350&# 194;°F (175ðC).
  2. In a large bowl, gently combine the crabmeat, finely diced onion, finely diced green pepper, mayonnaise, and Old Bay seasoning. Mix carefully to avoid breaking up the crab clusters.
  3. Cut the 8 hamburger rolls in half horizontally.
  4. Butter the cut sides of the rolls and place them cut-side up on a baking sheet. Broil briefly until lightly toasted, then remove from oven.
  5. Place the toasted roll bottoms on a cookie sheet. Spoon a generous amount of the crab mixture onto each roll bottom, creating a mound.
  6. Top each crab mound with a slice of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crab is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from oven. Top each burger with the remaining half of the roll and serve immediately.
