Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 450ðF (230ðC).
  2. Line an 8-inch tart pan with a removable bottom with the pie crust dough.
  3. Trim the excess dough from the rim, leaving about 3/4 inch overhang.
  4. Fold the overhanging dough inward and press it firmly against the sides of the pan to create a neat edge.
  5. Line the crust with aluminum foil and fill with dry rice or pie weights to prevent puffing.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes to set the crust shape.
  7. Remove the foil and rice weights carefully.
  8. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork to allow steam to escape.
  9. Return the crust to the oven and bake for another 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are light golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow the crust to cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. While the crust cools, chop 5 oz of semi-sweet baking chocolate into small pieces.
  12. Place the chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on HIGH for about 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and smooth.
  13. Immediately add 3 tablespoons powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur (or thawed orange juice concentrate), 1 1/2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon water, and 2 teaspoons grated orange zest to the melted chocolate.
  14. Whisk the mixture vigorously until it is completely smooth and glossy.
  15. Pour the chocolate filling into the cooled tart shell.
  16. Evenly sprinkle 3/4 cup of roasted mixed nuts (such as Oregon hazelnuts, almonds, and walnuts) over the top of the filling.
  17. Refrigerate the tart for at least 1 hour to allow the ganache to set firmly before slicing.
  18. Slice into wedges and serve chilled.
