Easy Apple Strudel
Description
This Easy Apple Strudel brings the charm of a Viennese bakery to your kitchen. The star of the dish is the incredibly thin, pliable dough stretched to perfection, encasing a warm filling of tart apples, cinnamon, and sugar. As it bakes, the pastry turns golden and crisp, creating a delightful contrast to the soft, juicy fruit inside. It is an elegant yet approachable dessert that pairs beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Perfect for weekend brunches, holiday gatherings, or simply as a comforting treat on a chilly afternoon, this strudel offers a taste of tradition with every flaky bite.Ingredients
Directions
-
In a large bowl, cut 1/2 lb of butter or margarine into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Add the egg yolks, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, and 1/4 cup of water, mixing well until a cohesive dough forms.
-
Cover the dough tightly and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight, to rest.
-
Remove the dough from the fridge and divide it into 3 equal parts.
-
On a floured tablecloth, roll one part of the dough out thinly to approximately 10-1/2 x 15-1/2 inches.
-
Sprinkle the rolled dough with 1 tablespoon of flour, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.
-
Arrange 3 peeled and diced apples along one edge of the long side of the dough.
-
Using the cloth to help guide and lift, carefully roll the dough up tightly around the apple filling.
-
Place the rolled strudel seam-side down on an ungreased cookie sheet or shallow baking pan.
-
Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 45 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
-
Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm sprinkled with confectioner's sugar.
