Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300&# 194;°F (150°C).
  2. In a large bowl, pour hot water over oatmeal and margarine.

  4. Stir in powdered milk, grated cheese, salt, and beaten egg until combined.
  5. Add cornmeal and wheat germ to the wet mixture.
  6. Mix well to distribute the dry ingredients evenly.
  7. Gradually add whole wheat flour, 1/3 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Note

These treats are designed to be hard and long-lasting. The extended drying time in the turned-off oven helps preserve them and makes them suitable for chewing.

You can use meat juices instead of water for added flavor, but ensure the broth is low-sodium and onion/garlic-free for your dog's safety.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for longer storage.

If the dough is too sticky to roll, add a little more flour. If it's too crumbly, add a teaspoon of water.

Monitor your dog the first time they eat these to ensure they don't try to swallow large pieces whole.
