  1. Heat 1 tbsp of coconut oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the mackerel, skin-side down, and cook for 4 minutes.
  3. Turn the fish and cook for 2 more minutes, until cooked through.
  4. Remove the fish from the pan and set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Cook the buckwheat noodles as per package instructions.
  6. Drain the noodles, rinse under cold water, and set aside.
  7. Heat the remaining coconut oil in the same pan over medium heat.
  8. Add the onion, ginger, garlic, and chile to the pan.
  9. Cook the aromatics for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  10. Add the mushrooms and broccoli and cook for 2 more minutes.
  11. Pour the tamari sauce into the pan and bring to a boil.
  12. Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce for 5 minutes.
  13. Add the drained noodles and flaked mackerel to the pan to heat through.
  14. Pour the mixture into a serving bowl.
  15. Top with sesame seeds, reserved green onion, and fresh basil.

Note

If using canned mackerel, drain well and flake it in the same way as the fresh fish.
