Fresh Fig Bars
Description
These Fresh Fig Bars offer a rustic, homemade treat that balances the earthy sweetness of figs with a buttery, oatmeal crust. The filling is cooked down until dark and jammy, creating a rich contrast to the crisp-tender topping. Perfect for afternoon tea or as a portable snack, these bars are easy to assemble and bake. They capture the essence of autumn baking, using simple pantry staples like honey, brown sugar, and quick-cooking oats. Serve them warm for a gooey texture or cool them for a firmer bite.Ingredients

Note
Storage: Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Substitutions: You can substitute butter for the shortening. Dried figs may be used instead of fresh, but you may need to adjust the cooking time and add a bit more water to plump them up.
Tip: For a crispier top, you can sprinkle a little extra brown sugar over the top crust before baking.
