Ginger Creme Brulee
Description
This Ginger Creme Brulee elevates the traditional French dessert by infusing the rich custard with fresh, zesty ginger. The result is a silky-smooth texture that balances the deep sweetness of heavy cream and vanilla with a subtle, warming spice. The signature crackly caramelized sugar top provides a satisfying crunch against the tender custard below. Perfect for dinner parties or special celebrations, this dish looks elegant and tastes luxurious. The ginger adds a unique aromatic complexity that makes it stand out from standard vanilla brulees. Serve chilled for the best contrast between the warm caramelized top and the cold custard. It is an impressive yet manageable dessert that showcases simple high-quality ingredients.Ingredients
Directions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, whole eggs, 6 ounces of sugar, and salt until the mixture is smooth and slightly pale.
-
In a heavy saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer (scalding). Do not let it boil vigorously.
-
Add the fresh grated ginger to the hot cream, remove from heat, and let steep for 5 minutes to infuse the flavor.
-
Slowly pour the warm ginger-infused cream into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to temper the eggs and prevent curdling.
-
Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a spouted measuring cup or pitcher to remove the ginger solids and ensure a silky texture.
-
Divide the custard evenly among four 6-ounce ramekins or creme brulee molds.
-
Place the ramekins in a large roasting pan. Carefully pour hot water into the roasting pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the custards are set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.
-
Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature.
-
Cover the ramekins with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, until thoroughly chilled.
-
Just before serving, sprinkle a thin, even layer of granulated sugar over the top of each chilled custard.
-
Place the ramekins under a preheated broiler for 1 to 3 minutes, watching closely, until the sugar bubbles and turns golden brown.
-
Let the tops cool for a minute to harden, then garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve immediately.
