Individual Beef Wellingtons With Mushroom Sauce
Description
These individual Beef Wellingtons offer a luxurious dinner experience without the complexity of a large roast. Tender 1-inch ribeye steaks are nestled into a savory mushroom and breadcrumb mixture, then encased in flaky puff pastry. The result is a perfect balance of rich meat, earthy mushrooms, and buttery pastry. Ideal for special occasions or a sophisticated weeknight dinner, this dish looks impressive but is surprisingly manageable. Serve with a side of roasted vegetables for a complete meal that feels restaurant-quality.Ingredients
Directions
-
Remove stems from 8 mushrooms and set the caps aside. Mince the remaining mushrooms and extra stems finely.
-
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced mushrooms and onions, cooking for 5 minutes until all liquid has evaporated.
-
Stir in the bread crumbs, thyme, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
-
Prepare the puff pastry according to package directions. Cut into 8 rectangular pieces, reserving the scraps.
-
Place about 1/3 cup of the cooled mushroom mixture in the center of each pastry rectangle. Top each with a ribeye steak and one whole mushroom cap.
-
In a small bowl, beat the egg whites with 2 teaspoons of water. Brush this mixture onto the edges of the pastry.
-
Fold the pastry over the steak and mushroom, overlapping the edges and pressing firmly to seal.
-
Roll out the pastry scraps and cut into leaf or decorative shapes. Brush the backs with egg white and arrange on top of the pastry rectangles for decoration.
-
Place the assembled wellingtons on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 2-3 hours to firm up the pastry.
-
Remove from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking. Preheat the oven to 400&# 194;°F (204ðC).
-
Beat the egg yolk with 2 teaspoons of water and brush over the top of each pastry.
-
Bake for 23 minutes for rare or 25 minutes for medium doneness, until the pastry is golden brown.
-
Serve immediately.
