Description

This Indoor Barbequed Beef Brisket delivers the deep, smoky flavors of traditional barbecue without needing an outdoor smoker. By braising the beef brisket with onions, garlic, and jalapeños, then finishing it in a low oven with a homemade sauce of vinegar, Worcestershire, and brown sugar, you achieve incredibly tender meat that melts in your mouth. The reserved cooking liquid is reduced into a savory jus to drizzle over the slices. It's a hearty, comforting dish perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or holiday gatherings.

Directions

  1. Trim excess fat from the beef brisket and season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Crush the garlic cloves and mince the jalapeño pepper, removing the stem and seeds if desired for less heat.
  3. In a large Dutch oven, sear the seasoned brisket on all sides over high heat until browned.
  4. Reduce the heat and add enough water to cover the meat completely.
  5. Add the diced onion, crushed garlic, and minced jalapeño to the pot.
  6. Bring the liquid to a boil, then lower the heat and cover the pot.
  7. Simmer the brisket covered for 2 hours.
  8. Remove the brisket from the pot and set aside; reserve the cooking liquid.
  9. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit (121°C).
  10. Return the brisket to the pot.
  11. In a small bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and smoke flavoring.
  12. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the brisket.
  13. Cover the pot tightly and bake in the oven for 4 hours.
  14. While the brisket is baking, pour the reserved cooking liquid into a saucepan.
  15. Reduce the liquid by two-thirds over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  16. Set the reduced liquid aside and keep warm.
  17. Remove the brisket from the oven and let it stand in the pot for 15 minutes before slicing.
  18. Slice the brisket against the grain.
  19. Pour the reduced cooking liquid over the sliced brisket and serve immediately.
