Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, bring milk and cream to a gentle boil.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
  3. Slowly pour about one-third of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture while whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
  4. Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk.
  5. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
  6. Strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl.
  7. Stir in the melted dark chocolate and Jack Daniel's until fully combined.
  8. Chill the mixture thoroughly in the refrigerator.
  9. Churn the mixture in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions until frozen.
  10. For the chocolate syrup, bring 1/2 cup sugar, 1 oz water, and 1/4 cup cocoa powder to a boil, stirring until dissolved. Let cool.
  11. Spoon 3 tablespoons of chocolate syrup into the bottom of each 16-ounce Pilsner glass.
  12. Add one scoop of Jack Daniel's ice cream to each glass.

Note

If you do not have an ice cream maker, you can purchase high-quality vanilla ice cream and stir in the melted chocolate and Jack Daniel's just before serving. Allow it to soften slightly before mixing to ensure even distribution.

The chocolate syrup can be made ahead of time and stored in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently if it thickens too much.

Ensure the custard base is completely cool before churning to achieve the best texture and prevent ice crystals.

For a stronger whiskey flavor, increase the amount of Jack Daniel's in the ice cream base, but be mindful that alcohol prevents freezing, so the ice cream may be softer than usual.
