Description

Knock You Nakeds is a beloved potluck classic that combines the best elements of German chocolate cake with the convenience of a no-fuss bar cookie. This dessert features a tender, nutty crust baked until golden, topped with a lusciously smooth caramel filling and a generous layer of melted chocolate chips. The result is a chewy, rich, and indulgent treat that satisfies any sweet tooth. Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or simply when you need a comforting pick-me-up, these bars are easy to make with pantry staples. They slice beautifully and hold up well at room temperature, making them ideal for sharing with friends and family.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350&# 194;°F (175ðC) and grease a 13x9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, chopped nuts, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and melted butter. Mix until a cohesive dough forms.
  3. Press half of the dough mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake the crust for 8 minutes, until lightly set.
  5. While the crust bakes, place the caramel candies and 1/2 cup evaporated milk in the top of a double boiler.
  6. Heat over low simmer, stirring frequently, until the caramels are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  7. Pour the warm caramel mixture evenly over the partially baked crust.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the caramel layer.
  9. Drop the remaining dough by spoonfuls over the chocolate chips, spreading slightly to cover as much surface area as possible.
  10. Return to the oven and bake for 18 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  11. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing into bars.

Note

Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting to ensure clean slices and prevent the caramel layer from oozing out.

For a nut-free version, omit the chopped nuts and add an extra tablespoon of butter to the dough to maintain moisture.

Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature before serving for best texture.

If you do not have a double boiler, you can melt the caramels in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each interval, until smooth.
