Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in the warm water.
  2. Add 4 cups of flour, the warm milk, shortening, sugar, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture.
  3. Beat the mixture for 2 minutes or until smooth and well combined.
  4. Gradually add enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly until smooth.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top.
  7. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 2 to 3 hours.
  8. Punch the dough down to release air bubbles and divide it into four equal parts.
  9. On a lightly floured surface, roll each part into a 9-inch circle.
  10. Brush each circle with the melted butter.
  11. Cut each circle into eight pie-shaped wedges.
  12. Starting from the wide edge of each wedge, roll up the dough toward the tip and pinch the seam to seal.
  13. Place the rolls tip-down on baking sheets and freeze until solid.
  14. Once frozen, transfer the rolls to freezer bags and store in the freezer until needed.
  15. To bake, place the frozen rolls on greased baking sheets and thaw for 5 hours or until doubled in size.
  16. Bake in a preheated oven at 375F (191C) for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  17. Remove from baking sheets immediately and serve warm, or cool on wire racks.
